He was the 2002 Indiana Sportscaster of the Year, and in 2009 Howard was inducted into the Indiana Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame. Howard was inducted into the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2015 and in 2018, he was inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame.
Howard has broadcast the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians games for 44 years and he did the play-by-play of the Triple-A world Series on ESPN2 from 2006-2008. Howard also has broadcast for the Cleveland Cavaliers and St. John's Red Storm.
