Christine Ervin
A nationally respected voice on sustainability, Christine Ervin has led highly successful private-public partnerships to accelerate green technologies and markets for more than 15 years.
As the first President & CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council, Christine is widely credited as a major force behind today's vibrant green building market. During her five year-tenure, the LEED® building rating program became the defacto national green building standard and Greenbuild became the world's largest green building conference and trade show (attracting 30,000 people in 2009). Christine built the Council from a start-up organization to an influential coalition of nearly 5,000 companies and organizations, 50 staff and 70 chapters.
Christine was appointed U.S. Assistant Secretary of Energy by President Clinton (1993-1997), directing $1 billion in energy efficiency and renewable energy technology investments. Among her initiatives were: the EPA-DOE ENERGY STAR partnership; Million Solar Roofs; the nation's first sustainable community resource center; streamlined appliance standards; and the High Performance Building Technology roadmap. In addition, many of the Administration's voluntary climate change programs were under her purview. Previously, she directed the highly respected Oregon Department of Energy.
Today, Christine consults, speaks and writes from her own Portland-based firm. She serves on numerous public and private boards ranging from the American Council on Renewable Energy and Green Electronics Council to start-up green companies and venture capital firms. She also serves as an Editor-at-Large/advisor for Greener World Media.

On one hand, mankind has never faced such a perfect storm of challenges--from climate change and ecosystem disruptions to rising Asian economies, energy shortages and trends toward western levels of consumption. But transitioning to a low-carbon sustainable economy may well prove to be the greatest and most satisfying adventure in history as well. This fast-paced presentation quickly traces the latest in scientific and cultural trends moving into inspiring and game-changing examples of innovations across several industries.
The Green Energy Revolution: The world's largest infrastructure---energy--is in the early stages of being completely reinvented: partly driven by the compelling need to reduce carbon and increasingly inspired by the opportunities that can flow from clean and sustainable energy. This presentation traces the key drivers forcing change, the new powerhouse called efficiency, leading renewable energy sources and the critical role of information technology as an enabler.
Greening the Built Environment: How the traditionally slow-to-change building industry is quickly becoming a platform for innovation and solutions to challenges ranging from climate change to labor productivity. This popular presentation is a high impact, visual tour of the rapidly changing green building industry, market trends and drivers and leading edge directions including regenerative buildings and biomimicry . As former Asst. Secretary of Energy and the first President and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council, Christine is widely credited as a major force behind this dynamic market trend.
