Norm Howe
Norm started his career as an R&D chemist, but rapidly found that manufacturing offered much larger chemistry sets to work in. He held many management positions in the pharmaceutical industry, most in production and regulatory affairs at BASF. He pioneered the introduction of self-directed work teams at his company. He has led a number of cross functional cost reduction, product development, and business optimization teams. He has lead teams that have developed more than a dozen new products and installed more than $60M in capital. He has authored articles on compliance, chemistry, and general management.
Norm is currently a Senior Partner at Validation and Compliance Institute, LLC, a consulting firm which helps companies to comply with FDA regulations, and supplies expert witnesses. He gives about 20 seminars a year. He practices the words of Sydney Pollock, who said
" The best training is when you laugh or cry, because that’s when something is getting through to you."
He also teaches a course in quality systems at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. For recreation he likes to play golf, which he finds to be very cost effective on a dollar per stroke basis.
