Lynn Whitfield
Current Project: Currently, Lynn stars in the OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK original scripted drama series GREENLEAF about the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their sprawling Memphis megachurch. Whitfield plays the leading role of 'Lady Mae Greenleaf', the imperious Minister's wife and power-hungry matriarch of the family, the series has been greenlit for a 5th season.
Film History: Whitfield achieved wide recognition and won an Emmy for her title role in THE JOSEPHINE BAKER STORY. The HBO biopic required her to age from 18 to 68. In a highly publicized casting call, Whitfield was chosen over hundreds of women for the title role. Soon thereafter, Whitfield was cast as the female lead opposite Martin Lawrence in the dark romantic comedy film A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE (1996). The film grossed over $35 million against a budget of $8 million. She starred opposite Danny Glover and Rosanna Arquette in the comedy film GONE FISHING (1997), in the Chris Rock comedy film HEAD OF STATE (2003) and Tyler Perry's MADEA'S FAMILY REUNION (2006). Lynn played the mother of Jurnee Smollett's title character in the critically acclaimed independent drama EVE'S BAYOU (1997). She can also be seen on THE WOMEN (2008), REBOUND (2009), MAMA, I WANT TO SING (2011) and Disney Channel films THE CHEETAH GIRLS (2003) and THE CHEETAH GIRLS 2 (2006). She is also known for her recurring role in the ABC legal drama EQUAL JUSTICE, appearing opposite Joe Morton as well as recurring roles on ABC's HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, ABC's MISTRESSES Fox's BOSTON PUBLIC, CBS's WITHOUT A TRACE, VH1's HIT THE FLOOR, and NBC's THE COSBY MYSTERIES.
