
Valerie Red-Horse
In addition to finance, Ms. Red-Horse is an accomplished filmmaker. In 1995 her feature screenplay LOZEN, the true story of an Apache woman warrior, was selected and workshopped at the Sundance Writers Lab. An entrepreneur at heart, in 1996, Ms. Red-Horse launched RED-HORSE NATIVE PRODUCTIONS. The first project, NATURALLY NATIVE, an independent feature which Red-Horse wrote, produced, co-directed, starred in, and distributed, premiered at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival, and secured a U.S. theatrical release. In 2002, Red-Horse produced and directed, TRUE WHISPERS, an award winning PBS/ITVS documentary about the Navajo Code Talkers, produced with Gale Anne Hurd/Valhalla Motion Pictures. Ms. Red-Horse produced, wrote and directed POP HUNTER’S DEW DROP INN for NAPT/PBS and wrote the segment entitled, “The Gift”, within BEAUTY, a MOW Teleplay for Will Smith’s Production Company, Overbrook, in Association with NBC. Red-Horse is currently producing/directing a film for the Choctaw Nation regarding their involvement in WWI, consulted on Classic Media’s animated feature “TUROK: SON OF STONE” (2008 release) and is also attached to direct two feature films: the Standing Bear story depicting the first American Indian Human Rights Trial and “Echota” the Cherokee Trail of Tears Epic.
Red-Horse is also the founder of the Hollywood Access Program for Natives (H.A.P.N.), a non-profit educational/training organization for Native youth. Red-Horse holds six Securities Registrations including that of a principal and is also a licensed Life Insurance Agent. Red-Horse recently launched a new ministry working with the White Earth Community Center in Cass Lake, MN. Red-Horse was inducted into the NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) Hall of Fame in Los Angeles on March 14th, 2008. Red-Horse is a current member of the Directors Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild, International Women’s Forum and serves on the National Boys and Girls Clubs Board for American Indians. She has been married to former NFL football player, Curt Mohl since 1982 and the couple has three children.
