AS SEEN ON: LA Weekly, CTV, CBC, Yahoo
Hi, I'm Matthew Dickson! First off, I want you to know that your mental health recovery is an amazing accomplishment!
Stay hopeful, for you never know what tomorrow may bring!
I have spent 20+ years improving my mental health, and I want to share what I have learned with you!
I have successfully recovered from schizophrenia, and I am the first person with schizophrenia to bicycle across Canada (a film was made about the ride).
I also have the world's first website with all the groups helping people with mental illness in developing countries get access to basic mental health care at www.MindAid.ca.
My story:
In the middle of my engineering studies, I bicycled across Canada at the age of 20. Shortly afterwards I developed schizophrenia, and I was forced to alter the course of my life for many years to get through the disease.
I read many books on how to improve my mental health, as well as how to become a mental health advocate.
It took many years, but I successfully recovered from schizophrenia, and now I help others get through their struggles with mental illness - those in developed countries and those in developing countries.
Because my heart went out to people with mental illness in developing countries, as they had it much worse than I did, I made the only website of its kind in the world, www.MindAid.ca, which acts as a hub for the cause of mental health in developing countries.
As the groups working on mental health in developing countries are scattered across the internet, I put them all on one site (as many as I can find, and it is continually being updated), so that people can find them easily and learn how to help.
In 2023 after 3 decades of recovering from schizophrenia, I bicycled across Canada again! I am now the world's first person with schizophrenia to bike across Canada!
Audience Benefits:
The main topics of my talks are:
1. how to improve your mental health, confidence, and enjoyment of life; I can help people rethink what they're doing with their life and how to enjoy it more
2. how to help people with mental illness in developing countries
3. how I recovered from schizophrenia, and my bike rides across Canada.
To be more environmentally friendly, please consider a virtual event from me!
Note: I am flexible with my fees, so please feel free to discuss that with me. My fees listed here are in US dollars. It is also important for me to learn more about your event beforehand, as I would like to make your event as great as possible!
