John Tickell

TX, US
John Tickell is a Specialist Practitioner in Sports Medicine, a Professional Athelete, and Author.
A spark was ignited in the young John Tickell by a school teacher who once called him a 'skinny little kid.' Young John did not take kindly to the comment and vowed that day to become a somewhat greater person than that skinny little kid. So he trained hard and became a champion schoolboy athlete, a low handicap golfer and a professional footballer who played the tough Australian Rules code for the Hawthorn Hawks. He worked hard to pay his own way through Medical School, driving delivery trucks and diving for golf balls in the river by the local public course. He taught himself to play the guitar, formed a group and sang in clubs and on TV shows, producing a No. 1 Top 40 hit record along the way. John graduated with his Medical Degree from the University of Melbourne and became Dr John, a General Practitioner, an Obstetrician and then a Specialist Practitioner in Sports Medicine. Dr John first visited the USA, Europe and Asia in 1979 and developed a skill for learning and teaching the principles of health and stress management to people and Corporations. He developed the first Executive Health Testing Clinics in Australia and these were subsequently acquired by the Medical Insurance Funds. The good Doctor became a best selling author of the two inspirational books 'A Passion for Living' and 'Laughter, Sex, Vegetables and Fish.' Following successful local real estate ventures, Dr Tickell developed the first large scale health spa complex in Australia, the Hyatt Regency Coolum International Golf and Spa Resort on Queensland's Sunshine Coast - a subtropical paradise. As a speaker, Dr John's first ever presentation was to a Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization. The Doctor has travelled through many countries studying the habits and cultures of different races of people, including the longest living population in the world. Using data collected over 20 years, Dr Tickell has developed a computer program titled 'Live Younger, Live Better, Live Longer' - How Young Are You Really - which assesses the physiological age of your body compared to the number of 'birthdays' that have passed you by. This experience and wisdom has seen Dr Tickell become a world renowned speaker delivering his message at more than 1,800 conferences and meetings in the USA, Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. He has spoken in the company of icons such as General Norman Schwarzkopf, Mikhail Gorbachev, Edward de Bono, Hans Selye and many other prominent leaders. After sharing the stage with 'Stormin Norman' for a second time, Dr John invited the General and his wife home for a Bar-B-Q. To John's surprise, the General accepted! Heroes have always played an important role in Dr Tickell's message. 'You are more likely to be successful if you grow up with heroes in your life' says Dr John. Jack Nicklaus was one of John's heroes and he figured out the best way to meet Jack was to invite him to design a golf course. Nicklaus said 'yes' and The Heritage Golf and Residential Country Club in the wine growing district of Melbourne is now a world-class golfing destination. The friendship that developed culminated in them co-authoring the superb book 'Golf and Life' - 72 Lessons on Life that grew out of the experiences of Jack Nicklaus and Dr John Tickell. Lessons which make a difference. Dr John Tickell is a great teacher and wonderful storyteller. He has wonderful stories to tell.
